The EcoBoat project is the brainchild of Peter Howe of the Anglia Boatbuilders Association and is run through the ABA. Concerned by the effects of climate change and what boatbuilders and designers could be doing to lessen the impact of boating locally and globally the project set out to establish the current state of the art in sustainable technologies with the ultimate aim of building a demonstration craft.
The research stage was completed by Newcastle University in 2005 and in 2006 additional funding was secured to produce a preliminary design for a 2+2 berth river cruiser primarily intended for operation on the waterways of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. This design has stimulated significant interest but has yet to become a reality.
Full details of the project and the funding sources can be found on the ABA website.
